Located in the center of Moscow, the Kremlin was the target of numerous Nazi bombing raids in 1941-1942, according to Kremlin chief Serge Khlebnikov. He added that the unexploded bomb was located under a large layer of soil and was defused and removed from the area.

It is worth noting that the bomb was found on August 15, Russian Archaeology Day. Many journalists invited to the Kremlin for the occasion had to be evacuated immediately.

Archaeological excavations are regularly carried out at the Kremlin, which has a rich history spanning nine centuries. The first buildings appeared here in the mid-12th century and the fortress has been rebuilt many times since then, using materials as diverse as wood and white stone.
