'Strange' substance detected in tiger prawns.

Over 200 kg of an unknown substance were seized by police in Thua Thien Hue province after discovering two seafood businesses regularly injecting it into tiger prawns.

Employees at a seafood business in Thuan An town, Phu Vang district, Thua Thien Hue province, are injecting impurities into tiger prawns to increase their weight.

On July 26, the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police announced that authorities had sent samples to specialized agencies for analysis and testing of an impurity used to inject into dead tiger prawns that the police had seized. Previously, on July 25, the Environmental Crime Prevention Police Department of Thua Thien Hue Province raided two seafood businesses and caught them red-handed injecting an unknown impurity into dead tiger prawns.

The two aforementioned seafood businesses are Than Hue Seafood Business, located at 268 Kinh Duong Vuong Street, Thuan An town, Phu Vang district (Thua Thien - Hue province), owned by Mr. Le Van Than (47 years old), and Hong Dung Seafood Business, located at 169 Kinh Duong Vuong Street, Thuan An town, Phu Vang district, owned by Mr. Vo Manh Hung (45 years old).

The police discovered that employees at the two establishments were injecting impurities into tiger prawns.

At the two locations, the police also seized 150 kg of dead tiger prawns, 202 kg of impurities, and 80 syringes.

It is known that these two businesses have been operating since 2012, regularly importing dead tiger prawns and then injecting them with foreign substances to increase their weight before selling them to restaurants that host wedding receptions in Thua Thien Hue province, thereby making illicit profits.

The case is currently under further investigation and processing.

The cloudy white substance used to inject into dead shrimp is currently being tested.
