Million-year-old amber block discovered, extremely valuable

The Kaliningrad Amber Company (Russia) has just discovered a block of amber weighing more than 3kg. This is the largest block of amber that the company has mined in the past 30 years. Amber is fossilized tree resin from the Neolithic era, highly valued for its color and natural beauty.

It is worth noting that this is the third block of amber discovered in the past few weeks. On March 1, the company discovered amber blocks weighing 1.3kg and 2.36kg. Currently, these 3 blocks of amber have been transferred to the company's warehouse for preservation.

Gemologists will assess the amber and then decide what to do with it. Once assessed, the company may either hand it over to authorities or auction it off, the company said.

The amber blocks were found when the company resumed mining after the winter break. Each year, the company finds 10-12 amber blocks weighing more than 1kg. In 2016, the company found a block of amber weighing 2.7kg.

This is amber that may have formed 50 million years ago.

In 2012, a piece of amber weighing more than 2kg was found in the Kaliningrad region. Scientists predicted that it may have been underground for 50 million years.

Kaliningrad is considered to be the region with the largest amber reserves in the world. There is also a unique amber mine here, which is not found anywhere else. According to scientists, amber here was formed long ago, about 50 million years ago. Of which, the amber reserves at the Primorskoye and Palmnikenskoye mines are up to 116,000 tons.
