Ancient books of the Nguyen family discovered in Tien Dien.

On the afternoon of July 5th, Mr. Ho Bach Khoa, Head of the Management Board of the National Monument of the Great Poet Nguyen Du (Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh province), announced that an ancient book related to the Nguyen family of Tien Dien had been discovered in Tien Dien commune.



The book measures 17cm x 14cm, is 1.5cm thick, and is written in classical Chinese characters on thin, dark yellow <i>do</i> paper. A summarized translation of the beginning of the book reveals it to be the <i>Linh Nam Nguyen Thi, Khoa Au Chan Thien (Thuyen), Dieu Le Toan Thu</i>.

The content is divided into 3 parts:

The first part discusses the theory of the five elements.

The second part describes and diagrams some ancestral tombs in Bac Ninh (Vo Gia district - Nguyen Nhan Duy ancestral tomb of the top scholar in Bac Ninh, Bac Ninh - Nguyen Dang Dao ancestral tomb of the top scholar, Bac Ninh - Nguyen Cong ancestral tomb of the top scholar), Hai Duong (Hai Duong - Chi Linh district, Ngo Dinh ancestral tomb of the top scholar, Hai Duong - Thanh Lam district, Vo (Vu) Duong ancestral tomb of the top scholar); Hanoi (Hanoi - Thanh Tri district, Nguyen clan ancestral tomb of Dang Lang Duong, twelve people); Hung Yen (Hung Yen - Binh Dan commune, Nguyen Duong Dao ancestral tomb, top scholar)...;

The third section records many place names and includes some maps (diagrams) along with discussions on the content of the Five Elements theory recorded in the first section.

According to initial assessments by experts, this could be a book from the "Khoa Ấu Chân Thuyên" collection by Lĩnh Nam Phong Công Nguyễn Quỳnh - the grandfather of the great national poet and world cultural figure Nguyễn Du.
