The ancient city newly discovered by divers in England is rumored by many to be the mythical city of Atlantis.

The discovery of this thousand-year-old ancient city was made by divers working for an oil company in the North Sea. The official information was only recently released, but it was first discovered in 2012.

A giant ancient city dating back thousands of years has just been discovered in England.

In fact, due to continental tectonics, the area from Scotland to Denmark was gradually submerged by water between 18,000 and 5,500 BC.

"Divers from an oil company working in the North Sea have discovered the remains of an ancient submerged city," the official announcement said.

After receiving the information, a team of climatologists, archaeologists and geophysicists have now mapped the area showing just how vast the land is.

Many now claim it is the heart of Europe, dating back some 8,000 years. However, some believe it is possible the city sank as far back as 20,000 years ago.

"It was the true centre of Europe until sea levels rose to what the British coast looks like today," said Dr Bates, a geophysicist on the team in 2012. "We have speculated for many years about the existence of the lost land from the bones of fishermen across the North Sea. However, it was only through working with oil companies over the past few years that we have been able to recreate what this lost land might have looked like."

“When the data was first processed, I thought it wouldn’t give us any useful information. But as more areas were covered, it revealed a vast and complex landscape,” Dr Bates added.

According to Dr Bates, we can now model its flora and fauna, build a picture of the ancient people who lived there and begin to understand some of the dramatic events that later changed the land.
