Discovery of the lightest galaxy.
American astronomers say they have found the lightest galaxy in the universe, adding a long-awaited member to the collection of galaxies..
The newest member of the galactic family is a cluster of about 1,000 stars with a small amount of dark matter to bind them together. It has been named Segue 2.
"Finding a galaxy as small as Segue 2 is like discovering an elephant that's smaller than a mouse," James Bullock, a cosmologist at the University of California, Irvine, told The Los Angeles Times.

Astronomers have long predicted the existence of these dwarf galaxies and have been searching for them for years.
According to Dr. Bullock, if no galaxy like Segue 2 is found, it would be tantamount to admitting that humanity's theoretical understanding of the formation of the universe has serious flaws.
The identification of Segue 2, thanks to the Keck telescope in Hawaii, is considered to be just the tip of a massive iceberg.
Segue 2 is one of the faintest galaxies ever recorded, with a luminosity only 900 times that of the sun, while the Milky Way is 20 billion times brighter.
