This is the largest case of air gun smuggling from abroad into Vung Tau city ever discovered and arrested by the provincial Border Guard.
Through initial investigation, there were 6 sailors involved in the above gun smuggling case including: Dao Van Dat (born in 1986, in Hai Quang, Hai Hau, Nam Dinh), Pham Van Duy (born in 1967, in Trai Chuoi, Hai Phong), Dang Van Nam (born in 1974, in Ngu Loc, Hau Loc, Thanh Hoa), Nguyen Van Dao (born in 1985, in Hoa Tien, Hung Ha, Thai Binh), Ly Nhat Thuan (born in 1984, in Tan Duong, Dinh Hao, Thai Nguyen) and Tran Xuan Thanh (born in 1976, in Thach My, Loc Ha, Ha Tinh).
The subjects confessed to having bought 23 air guns from Indonesia, of which the subject bought the most was 7 guns and the least was 2 guns to bring back to Vietnam to sell. The purchase of guns from Indonesia had been going on for quite a while but there was no opportunity to bring them ashore to sell. In addition to the 6 subjects above, there was also a female subject involved, Vo Thi Loan (born in 1992, in Nhon Son, Ninh Son, Ninh Thuan).
Previously, at around 8:00 p.m. on July 10, in the Sao Mai coastal area (Ward 5, Vung Tau City), the anti-drug force of the Provincial Border Guard discovered a number of subjects transporting suspicious goods (after inspection, 23 air guns) from a small boat at sea to a Petroleum taxi with license plate 30V-2354.
When discovering the Border Guard force, the two subjects Dat and Duy, along with Loan (who had followed the taxi from Ho Chi Minh City), got into the taxi and fled. After chasing for more than 1km, the Provincial Border Guard stopped the taxi, but because at that time there was only one soldier (in the car parked outside) chasing them, Dat and Duy opened the door and took advantage of the darkness to escape.
Through the investigation of Loan, the Provincial Border Guard identified the two escaped subjects as Dat and Duy, who were sailors of the Hai Phong 05 ship (captained by Thai Thanh Quy) anchored at the PTSC Petroleum Services Port (Vung Tau City). That same night, the Provincial Border Guard organized a siege and captured the two subjects on the Hai Phong 05 ship. Through investigation, the Provincial Border Guard identified four other subjects who were also sailors of the Hai Phong 05 ship and were involved in the smuggling case. The Provincial Border Guard temporarily detained the Hai Phong 05 ship to serve the investigation.
The Hai Phong 05 ship, transporting steel pipes for the oil and gas industry, traveled from Malaysia to Vung Tau city and docked at PTSC Oil and Gas Services Port at 6 p.m. on July 10. On the afternoon of July 11, the provincial Border Guard will search the Hai Phong 05 ship to continue investigating and expanding the case./.
