Scientists believe they have found traces of more than 65,000 tonnes of poison produced by Nazi Germany during World War II, according to DailyStar. Hitler's army used large amounts of toxic fumes on warplanes fighting against Russia along the Black Sea.
Now marine biologists believe they have found traces of mustard gas on the seabed, as well as a “strange whirlpool”. “Britain and the Soviet Union dumped 65,000 tonnes of Nazi chemicals in the Baltic Sea,” says British historian Guy Walters.
The team's findings were explored on the Science Channel's What of Earth earlier this month, with an expert on the show saying that "a toxic tunnel of chemical weapons used by the Nazis during World War II" had caused an environmental disaster. The bacteria could be dangerous to humans and animals.
Meanwhile, many documents previously said that in 1943, a German scientist proposed attacking the United States with various agents that caused pandemics in humans and animals. At that time, Nazi Germany had successfully experimented with a series of different disease-causing biological weapons. The Germans also had the idea of releasing 40 million dung beetles into the fields of England, causing widespread crop failure and famine.
Researchers also found ways to weaponize dangerous diseases like typhoid, cholera, and anthrax. They could create environments that could sustain the disease-causing bacteria for eight to 12 weeks, ensuring maximum lethality when they were dropped on enemy territory. After the war, American scientists found German records of biological weapons experiments. They considered them to be a remarkable but terrifying achievement.
