Promoting the role of the press to push back recession

(Baonghean) -On February 16, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong directed the Party and State agencies to clarify information related to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ho Thi Kim Thoa after the press unanimously spoke out about her "huge" assets. This direction immediately stirred public opinion and received attention and response from people across the country.

Not long ago, the head of our Party gave similar instructions when the mass media continuously published articles about the case of “private cars with public license plates” involving Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh - former Vice Chairman of Hau Giang Province. From that instruction, the authorities stepped in and exposed the terrible violations of this man and a group of related people to be handled according to the Party Charter and the laws of the State.

This time, we do not know how things will turn out, but it has raised in society a strong belief in the determination and positive results of the fight against degradation within our Party. The signs of degradation and negative behaviors among cadres and party members in particular and in society in general will certainly be pushed back. Opening a new stage of strong and clean development for the country.

This belief is completely well-founded. Because, in the past 30 years, also on the press front, the articles and instructions to clarify negative phenomena and incidents that the press reflected, initiated by the then General Secretary of our Party, Comrade Nguyen Van Linh, and personally written under the pen name NVL, published in Nhan Dan newspaper, sparked a movement to fight negativity, push back stagnation and degradation in the Party and in society, remove obstacles, create momentum for the resounding success of the renovation process, and bring the country to a new level of development. Unfortunately, in the process of renovation, we have not been able to maintain the original state. The degradation and negativity have become more and more serious and dangerous.

In particular, the press is partly responsible, as pointed out in the Resolution of the 4th Central Committee (12th tenure) on Party building and rectification: Promoting the role and responsibility of the Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations, media agencies and people in the fight against and prevention of degradation, "self-evolution", "self-transformation" among cadres and Party members is still limited and not very effective. Therefore, in this period of Party building and rectification, our Party has determined: Promoting the role and raising the responsibility of press agencies and press management agencies in the fight against degradation, bureaucracy, corruption, waste, negativity, "self-evolution", "self-transformation".

Said is done, the instructions of the head of the country requiring the competent agencies to clarify the information reported by the press on negative incidents and manifestations are concrete and practical actions to promote and enhance the role and effect of the press in building and rectifying the Party. For those who hold the pen, there is no greater encouragement than that. The issue here is to "respond to one another, attract one another". The head of the country has set an example, so the heads of departments, ministries, branches, localities, agencies and units should also wholeheartedly follow suit.

We must also actively and proactively clarify information in the press and in society that mentions negative and degenerate behaviors and actions in the areas assigned to us for leadership and management in order to have honest and timely feedback along with appropriate solutions and remedies, and appropriate forms of handling in accordance with the provisions of the law. That is the most effective way to promote the role of the press in the fight against degradation today.
