Approval of Cua Lo international port cluster until 2030
(Baonghean.vn) - The Ministry of Transport has just approved the detailed planning of Cua Lo seaport area, Nghe An province for the period up to 2020, with orientation to 2030 and after 2030 (No. 3699/QD-BGTVT, dated December 29, 2017).
Cua Lo seaport area includes: general ports, container ports, specialized ports; marinas and tourist ports.
According to the Decision approving the planning, Cua Lo Port will be 5,125 hectares wide, of which the land planning area is about 782.3 hectares; the water planning area is about 4,342.7 hectares (Northern limit: Bordering the East Sea; Southern limit: Bordering Nghi Tan and Nghi Thuy wards, Cua Lo town; Western limit: Bordering Nghi Quang, Nghi Tien and Nghi Hop communes, Nghi Loc district; Eastern limit: Bordering the East Sea).

Cua Lo Port Cluster has the function of serving sea freight transport for Nghe An province, neighboring provinces in the North Central region, and can receive goods from Laos and the Northeast region of Thailand.
On that basis, the area north of Cua Lo: Is a specialized port area, with a general port, containers for ships with a capacity of 3,000 - 50,000 tons (in the future, it will receive general ships, containers with a capacity of up to 100,000 tons and international passenger ships from 3,000 - 5,000 seats when conditions permit); specialized ports for exporting bulk cargo for cement, clinker, importing coal for ships with a capacity of 70,000 - 100,000 tons on international routes; specialized ports for importing coal, additives, exporting cement, clinker..., ships with a capacity of up to 30,000 tons for domestic and international routes; specialized ports for importing liquid goods such as gasoline, oil, asphalt, and post-petroleum products for ships with a capacity of up to 50,000 tons.

In the area south of Cua Lo: General ports, container ports for ships with a capacity of up to 30,000 tons; ports for ships with a capacity of up to 10,000 tons for coastal transport; Specialized ports, tourism, passenger ports, yachts associated with Cua Lo tourism.
By 2030 and after 2030, the loading and unloading capacity of Cua Lo Port Cluster will be from 23 - 29 million tons, including general and container ports in operation (No. 1, 2, 3, 4, by 2020 reaching 2.5 million tons/year, by 2030 and after 2030 reaching 4.5 million tons/year).
The general and container wharves (No. 5, 6, 7, 8) are planned to continue the existing wharves, 900 m long for ships with a tonnage of 20,000 - 30,000 tons, with a design capacity of 3.5 - 5.5 million tons/year by 2020, and 6 - 8 million tons/year by 2030 and after 2030.

At the same time, continue to complete general and specialized ports for cement, clinker, and petroleum in the Mui Rong - Nghi Thiet area for ships with a capacity of up to 50,000 tons (petroleum port) and up to 100,000 tons (cement and clinker port).
The development of Cua Lo Port Cluster is also associated with the development of comprehensive logistics services, anchorage areas, storm shelters for transport ships and connecting infrastructure to create a dynamic international port area.
To complete the above goal, the Southeast Economic Zone was assigned as the investor, mobilizing capital from the budget, socializing investors and participating enterprises, and gradually completing the planning.
