Singer Chau Viet Cuong confessed that while high on drugs, he thought his girlfriend was possessed by a ghost, so he hugged her tightly and stuffed garlic into her mouth, causing her death.

On the evening of March 5, the leader of Dong Da district police said that he had detained singer Chau Viet Cuong (40 years old, from Thanh Hoa) to clarify his actions related to a murder case.

Cuong told the police that in the early morning of March 5, he, a 20-year-old girl (from Chuong My, Hanoi) and two friends returned to an apartment on Nguyen Van Ngoc Street (Cong Vi Ward, Ba Dinh). The group used synthetic drugs and had sex there.

At around 8am the same day, Cuong hallucinated, thinking that the 20-year-old girl was possessed by a ghost, so he hugged her tightly and stuffed garlic into her mouth, causing her to suffocate and die. Police later conducted a forensic examination and discovered that more than 30 garlic cloves had blocked her airway.

“When summoned to the investigation agency, Cuong smelled strongly of garlic and showed signs of intoxication.highSo the testimony was contradictory. Tonight, the male singer is quite stable and gradually remembers everything," said the leader of Dong Da District Police.

Police continue to summon relevant people for clarification.

Earlier in early 2012, the male singer was accused of rape by a 12th grade female student in Hai Phong. Chau Viet Cuong admitted to having a "relationship" but claimed that the girl had "consent". The case was later suspended after the female student withdrew her complaint.
