Xinhua today quoted a passenger as saying the planecrashed while flying from Pyongyang, North Korea, to Beijing, China.
Smoke filled the cabin for about 30 minutes, forcing passengers to use oxygen masks. Airport authoritiesin Shenyang City, Liaoning Provincesaid the plane landed safelyand no one was injured.
Air Koryo's Pyongyang-Beijing route usually uses the Russian Tu-204. This medium-range twin-engine aircraft can carry 140 passengers.
Air Koryo is often ranked at the bottom of Skytrax's rating system for commercial airlines, but has a good safety record, with only one fatal accident in more than 30 years. Critics say this record is built on a very limited service, with Air Koryo flying to only three regions in China and the Russian city of Vladivostok.
