New version of Toyota Hilux has a 'softer' price

Exactly one year after launching the all-new generation, the Japanese automaker continues to introduce to the market the new version of the Hilux pickup truck.

Although the cylinder capacity is smaller, the power that the new engine brings to the 2016 Hilux is significantly greater.

With a series of valuable upgrades, it can be said that Toyota has been quite generous with its "favorite" pickup truck. The fact that it is not a completely new generation does not help the Hilux have any significant changes in design. However, the upgrades in transmission and technology give the Hilux a completely different appearance.

In this upgrade, the Hilux has a completely new engine compared to before. The vehicle is equipped with a 1KD-FTV direct fuel injection engine using a common rail and turbocharger combined with an Intercooler with 2 capacity options of 2.4 liters and 2.8 liters.

Although the cylinder capacity is smaller, the power that the new engine brings to the 2016 Hilux is significantly greater.

Specifically, the version using the new 2.8-liter engine has a maximum capacity of 174 horsepower and a maximum torque of 450 Nm, an increase of 13 horsepower and 90 Nm compared to the previous 3.0-liter engine version. Meanwhile, the new 2.4-liter version has a maximum capacity of 147 horsepower and a maximum torque of 400 Nm, an increase of 5 horsepower and 57 Nm compared to the 2.5-liter version.

The 2.4E and 2.8G versions are equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and the 2.8G version is equipped with a new 6-speed automatic transmission with a sport shift mode. All 3 new versions have Eco and Power driving mode options. The 2 versions using the 2.8 liter engine have an electronic axle engagement system combined with a rear differential lock with an electronic axle engagement switch instead of a traditional axle engagement lever.

In addition to the new engine and gearbox, the 2016 Hilux is also equipped with or upgraded by the Japanese automaker with a number of safety and entertainment features.

In particular, the new version has a rear camera displayed on the DVD screen (on the Hilux 2.8G automatic version). All versions have upgraded the entertainment system to a 1-disc DVD, 6 speakers and a 7-inch touch screen with integrated USB, AUX and Bluetooth peripheral device connection ports.

The car is equipped with a 3-spoke steering wheel with 4-way adjustment, integrated with buttons to adjust the sound system, hands-free calling, and a multi-information display. The new Hilux version 2.8 is equipped with 2 large clocks on both sides and a 4.2-inch blue TFT multi-information display in the middle. The front seats are 8-way electrically adjustable (2.8 G AT) and 6-way mechanically adjustable (2.8 G MT and 2.4E) with increased adjustment range...

Notably, despite possessing many upgrades, the retail price of the new Hilux is softer than before. Specifically, the Hilux E 2.4 liter manual version costs 697 million VND, the Hilux G 2.8 liter manual version costs 806 million VND and the Hilux G 2.8 liter automatic version costs 870 million VND. The car is imported by Toyota Vietnam from Thailand.
