"I have instructed all Japanese diplomatic missions to be vigilant and strengthen security," Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said at a press conference, pledging that Tokyo would take "all possible measures to ensure security" at locations targeted by IS.
Previously, in the recent issue of IS's English-language electronic magazine Dabiq, the group singled out Japan - a member of the US-led international coalition against IS - and called on fighters not fighting with the terrorist organization in Iraq and Syria to find other opportunities such as "attacking Japanese diplomatic missions in Bosnia, Malaysia and Indonesia."
In addition, IS also called for attacks on diplomatic missions of Panama and Saudi Arabia.
On the same day, a senior Japanese official said the government has issued a directive to strengthen security at its embassies worldwide./.
