(Baonghean.vn) - Through actual inspection, some localities have not yet fully implemented the work of preventing and controlling African swine fever, causing the epidemic to spread for a long time.

On the morning of December 21, a working delegation of the Provincial People's Committee led by Mr. Nguyen Van De - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee inspected the prevention and control of African swine fever in Thanh Chuong and Anh Son districts. Accompanying them were Mr. Phung Thanh Vinh - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, leaders of the Provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, and related units.

The working group inspected the epidemic prevention and control work in Thanh Thinh commune, Thanh Chuong district, one of the localities with many outbreaks of African swine fever. As of December 21, 5 out of 6 hamlets in the commune had African swine fever, 60 pigs were destroyed.

Through actual assessment, the epidemic prevention and control work in Thanh Thinh commune still has some shortcomings, such as the locality has no quarantine checkpoints, no signs, although lime powder is spread but does not ensure technical standards, small quantity...

It is worth mentioning that the destruction of sick pigs in this locality is also not safe. When households have infected pigs, they only destroy the sick pig, not the herd as recommended. This leads to a prolonged spread of the epidemic. Pigs in the same herd also become infected shortly after, forcing them to be destroyed in multiple batches.

Specifically, the case of Mr. Tran Van Duc's family in Duc Thinh hamlet, Thanh Thinh commune has 14 pigs, however, they have destroyed them 5 times, all of them are infected, destroying them many times makes the disease more likely to spread to other areas.

During the on-site inspection, Mr. Nguyen Van De - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee reminded the authorities of Thanh Thinh commune and Thanh Chuong district about disease prevention and control, requiring the locality to strictly implement disease prevention procedures, such as increasing the spreading of lime powder, chemicals, assigning forces as well as destroying sick pigs, minimizing the spread of the disease on a large scale.

By the end of December 20, Thanh Chuong district had 10 outbreaks in the communes of Dai Dong, Thanh Phong, Thanh Lien, Thanh Xuan, Thanh Lam, Thanh My, Phong Thinh, Thai Thinh, Thanh An, Thanh Chi. The total number of pigs culled was 586, with a total weight of nearly 34 tons.

The working group also inspected epidemic prevention and control work in the communes of Cao Son, Linh Son, Thach Son, Anh Son district.

Here, the work of preventing and fighting epidemics is carried out quite systematically. At the points where epidemics appear, there are areas for disinfection and sterilization, with lime powder mixed with straw, sawdust and water sprayed on tarpaulins to prevent epidemics. The militia and village cadres are divided into groups to be on duty at the points to control animals coming in and out.

Comrade Nguyen Van De acknowledged the anti-epidemic spirit of the people and authorities of the communes in Anh Son district. At the same time, he requested the district to increase forces, chemicals, disinfectants, and propaganda articles through platforms to better prevent the epidemic.

As of December 21, Anh Son district had 11 outbreaks in the following communes: Long Son, Phuc Son, Hoi Son, Thach Son, Cao Son, Tam Son, Tao Son, Linh Son, Binh Son, Duc Son, Lang Son. This is also a locality where African swine fever is quite complicated.

After checking the actual situation, Mr. Nguyen Van De - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the districts of Thanh Chuong, Anh Son as well as localities with African swine fever in the province to focus on implementing effective measures to prevent and control the epidemic. In particular, focusing all resources to completely handle the outbreaks, not allowing the epidemic to spread, prolong and cause new outbreaks. Any locality that is subjective, negligent in the work of preventing and controlling animal diseases, allowing the epidemic to spread widely, has a low vaccination rate, does not give strong direction, does not rectify the disposal of animal carcasses into the environment, the Chairman of the People's Committee at the district and commune levels must be responsible to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Localities should propagate to people to proactively prevent animal diseases, not to hide the disease, not to sell, slaughter, or dump the carcasses of sick or suspected sick animals into the environment; resolutely and strictly handle violations according to regulations. Review and arrange adequate veterinary staff to ensure requirements for disease prevention and control in the area, and be on duty at epidemic sites to ensure requirements.

In addition to disease prevention and control, localities and media agencies also have specific instructions for people on safe slaughter and consumption of pigs, avoiding causing panic and anxiety, causing consumers to limit the use of pork, affecting the market as well as the income of farmers...

As of December 20, the province had 106 outbreaks of African swine fever in 17 districts, cities and towns. The total number of pigs culled was 7,808, with a total weight of 459 tons.
