Deputy Prime Minister chairs online meeting to respond to storm Noru

(Baonghean.vn) - Before the assessment that storm Noru is a very fast moving, dangerous, and largest storm in the past 5 years, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh directed: Localities absolutely must not be subjective or lose vigilance before the storm's developments.

On the afternoon of September 25, the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control held an online meeting to direct response to the disaster.Storm Noruis entering the East Sea with winds of up to 183 km/h.

Comrade Le Van Thanh - Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control chaired the meeting. In addition to relevant ministries and branches, the meeting was attended by 14 provinces and cities from Thanh Hoa to Binh Thuan.

Proactive response, ensuring safety of people and property

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that storm Noru is moving too fast and dangerously, it is the biggest storm in the past 5 years; 4 localities are currently in the level 4 disaster risk area, on the 5-level disaster risk scale. It is forecasted that from September 27, the storm will begin to affect the central provinces of our country.

At the meeting, after listening to reports from the points on the implementation of storm response plans in localities, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh directed: Toproactive responseWith storms and prolonged heavy rains in the Central region, provinces are required to strictly manage vessels going out to sea; count and monitor ships and boats operating at sea, maintain regular communication with owners of vessels to call for and guide them to escape from dangerous areas, and prepare rescue forces and vehicles to promptly handle situations.

“This is a very strong storm, moving quickly, forecast to make landfall in the Central region, possibly causing very heavy rain, followed by flash floods, landslides. Localities should proactively activate plans according to approved scenarios, evacuate people if necessary; proactively prepare plans to ensure safety for people and property; overcome traffic incidents, guide people to travel safely; well implement the "4 on-site" plans, on duty 24/24h.

Each province, based on storm forecasts and instructions from the Central Government, will implement measures to ban the sea, roads, and streets, and let students stay home from school during the storm. Do a good job of propaganda and communication. By tomorrow, we must complete pruning trees and bracing houses; ensure the safety of sea and river dykes; urgently harvest crops that are ready for harvest...", Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh emphasized.

Nghe An is ready to respond to storm Noru

In Nghe An, since September 22, there has been rain, moderate rain, heavy rain to very heavy rain and thunderstorms in some places. Total rainfall from September 22 to 7:00 a.m. on September 25 is generally from 70 - 150 mm, high places like Quynh Luu 304 mm, Vinh city 261 mm, Thanh Chuong 162 mm...

As of 10:00 a.m. on September 25, Nghe An had 3,009 vessels with 13,778 workers anchored at the port; 339 vessels/2,019 workers were operating at sea; no vessels were in the danger zone. These vessels were informed by the coastal information agency about the location and direction of storm Noru and maintained regular communication to promptly handle any possible bad situations.

Currently, most of the large and small lakes and dams in the province are full of water and are being operated according to the approved disaster prevention and control plan. Of the 22 hydroelectric reservoirs in operation, 8 are operating according to the Inter-reservoir Operation Process in the Ca River Basin; the remaining reservoirs are operating according to the single-reservoir process, all of which have approved disaster prevention and control plans, dam and reservoir safety plans.

Nghe An has also implemented measures to ensure the safety of people, vehicles and property of the State and people. Prepare for flood control work; harvest rice, crops, and aquaculture areas until harvest time.
