On the morning of April 3, Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, inspected and directed the repair and reconstruction of Ghenh Bridge (Dong Nai Province) which collapsed on March 20.

According to Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Hong Truong, immediately after the Ghenh Bridge collapse at noon on March 20, the Ministry of Transport established a special task force, mobilizing strong construction units to concentrate vehicles and resources to rebuild Ghenh Bridge, expected to be completed before July 15.
The reconstruction of Ghenh Bridge is being carried out urgently, the construction process is calculated by the hour, by the day to soon complete this important railway bridge.
To date, freight and passenger transport has been operating stably again under existing infrastructure conditions. Train passengers between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa will be transferred by bus from Song Than station to Bien Hoa station. Goods in the southern region are organized to be gathered, loaded and transported at Ho Nai and Trang Bom stations around the clock.

Vietnam Railways Corporation has organized the transportation of passenger and cargo carriages from Saigon station to the above stations to increase vehicles, ensuring further improvement of transport capacity.
In addition, Ho Nai, Bien Hoa, and Trang Bom stations are urgently implementing construction and renovation to serve immediate transportation needs while Ghenh bridge is not yet repaired, as well as for future use.
The Prime Minister has clearly directed the construction of Ghenh Bridge under emergency orders and assigned the Ministry of Transport to direct the Chairman of the Board of Members of Vietnam Railway Corporation to decide on investment and take responsibility for the organization and management of this project with a budget of 298.5 billion VND. Specifically, 3 spans, 2 piers, abutments will be rebuilt and the clearance will be increased, with each span being 75 m.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stated: The collapse of Ghenh Bridge has caused significant economic damage and greatly affected railway transport and people's travel.
During the inspection at the construction site, the Deputy Prime Minister praised the quick intervention and efforts of the leaders of the Ministry of Transport, design and construction units who have mobilized motorbikes, equipment and vehicles to rebuild Ghenh Bridge.
During the time of large volume of goods and people traveling in the coming time, the Deputy Prime Minister requested the transport sector to coordinate best to transport goods and passengers smoothly, especially during the upcoming April 30 and May 1 holidays.
The construction must be urgent but ensure quality and progress with the motto "on-site design, on-site means, on-site equipment". Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc suggested speeding up the construction progress even more, trying to shorten the completion time 15 days earlier than expected (July 1). This will help save 150 billion VND, because according to calculations, the Ghenh bridge collapse caused about 10 billion VND in damage per day.
Units of the Ministry of Transport, Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee and relevant agencies direct the construction, organize meetings every 5 days right at the construction site to remove obstacles and difficulties.
At the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister also requested the transport sector to review the weak bridge system on the railway line and seriously re-examine the railway traffic safety warning system in a drastic and urgent spirit.
The Ministry of Public Security will soon complete the investigation conclusion to transfer to the prosecution and trial agencies in the coming time, ensuring strict handling before the law.
