Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh met with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Thailand.

Within the framework of the 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related meetings in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 1, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh met with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh emphasized that Vietnam attaches importance to its neighborly relations with China; on current maritime issues, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed Vietnam's principled stance, stating that both sides need to make efforts to maintain peace and stability, control disagreements well, not take actions that further complicate the situation, and through peaceful measures satisfactorily resolve disputes in the East Sea on the basis of strictly complying with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

State Councilor and Minister Wang Yi affirmed that the Chinese Party and Government treasure their relationship with Vietnam and strive to maintain the friendly relations between the two countries; agreed to exchange opinions and satisfactorily resolve issues arising in the relationship.

On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh had bilateral meetings with Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters, and UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab. The Deputy Prime Minister and his partners discussed measures to promote bilateral relations as well as a number of international and regional issues of mutual concern./.
