According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the invitation of US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh will pay an official visit to the US from April 20-21.

Previously, on February 17, on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Bonn (Germany), the Deputy Prime Minister had a meeting with Mr. Rex Tillerson.

The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated Secretary of State Tillerson's understanding and contributions to promoting economic, trade and investment relations in particular and cooperative relations between Vietnam and the US in general.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh affirmed that Vietnam values ​​and wishes to strengthen the friendship, cooperation and comprehensive partnership with the US on the basis of respecting each other's political institutions and meeting the interests of the people of the two countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister reiterated that Vietnamese leaders had invited President Donald Trump to attend the APEC summit and dialogue activities with businesses in Da Nang in November 2017. The Deputy Prime Minister also invited Secretary of State Tillerson to visit Vietnam soon.

Mr. Tillerson respectfully invited the Deputy Prime Minister to visit the US, expressing his wish to visit Vietnam and attend activities within the framework of APEC Year 2017 in Vietnam.

On February 23, US President Donald Trump sent a letter to President Tran Dai Quang, affirming his desire to promote cooperation.

The President asked Ambassador Ted Osius to convey his thanks to President Donald Trump for sending him a letter on strengthening cooperation between the United States and Vietnam; affirming that Vietnamese leaders are ready to cooperate with President Donald Trump to maintain the development momentum of bilateral relations, promoting the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership in a practical, constructive, stable and mutually beneficial manner on the basis of respecting the political regime, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of each country.

After Mr. Trump was elected President of the United States, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had a phone call with Mr. Trump.

President-elect Donald Trump highly appreciated Vietnam's achievements in recent times, the positive developments in bilateral relations, and affirmed his desire to cooperate with Vietnam to promote the relationship.
