The Romanian Deputy Prime Minister has been appointed as interim Prime Minister.
According to Xinhua News Agency, on June 22, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis appointed Deputy Prime Minister Gabriel Operaa as interim prime minister after Prime Minister Victor Ponta took leave to treat a knee injury.

According to Xinhua News Agency, on June 22, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis appointed Deputy Prime Minister Gabriel Operaa as interim prime minister after Prime Minister Victor Ponta took leave to treat a knee injury.
According to Romanian media, President Iohannis made the decision after receiving a health report from Ponta concluding that he was not allowed to move and needed post-operative monitoring.
On June 15th, Mr. Ponta underwent surgery on his left knee at a hospital in Türkiye.
According to an announcement by the Romanian government on June 21, Mr. Pota will return to Victoria Palace, the government headquarters, "within a maximum of 28 days."
