The Italian government intends to reach a review of sanctions against Russia, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development Luigi Di Mayo said.

Mr. Di Mayo stressed that the sanctions regime against Moscow caused significant damage to Italian business. According to him, if companies suffer large losses due to anti-Russian restrictions, the sanctions policy should be reconsidered.

"We are fighting and will fight against anti-Russian sanctions, but we are not doing this because we love the Russians or the Americans. We are defending Italy's interests," the deputy prime minister said.

The Italian Cabinet of Ministers has confirmed that economic restrictions against Russia must be lifted in the "government contract" signed by the League and Five Star Movement, whose leader is Di Mayo. The document notes that Moscow is "not a threat, but an increasingly important economic and trade partner" for Rome.
