Deputy Prime Minister requests to strengthen solutions to ensure traffic safety during the last 2 days of Tet holiday
Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, has just issued an official dispatch requesting ministries, branches and People's Committees of centrally-run provinces and cities to focus on implementing a number of solutions to ensure traffic safety during the last two days of the Lunar New Year holiday.
In a telegram sent to relevant ministries, sectors and localities on the afternoon of February 8, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh stated that during the 7-day Lunar New Year holiday, there were 214 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 135 people and injuring 189. Compared to the 2018 Lunar New Year, there were 4 fewer accidents (60 fewer deaths).

However, during the days from the 2nd to the 4th of the Lunar New Year, the traffic safety situation became more complicated than during the previous 4 holidays.
On February 8 (the 4th day of the Lunar New Year), a particularly serious traffic accident occurred on National Highway 1, passing through Hoang Quy Commune (Hoang Hoa District, Thanh Hoa) between 2 cars, killing 3 people and injuring 5 others.
After receiving the above information, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee Truong Hoa Binh sent condolences and encouragement to the victims' families.
At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister requested the Chairman of Thanh Hoa province to direct relevant units to urgently investigate and verify the cause of the traffic accident, pay attention to checking the status of stimulants and alcohol concentration in the driver's body in the accident; and strictly handle the case according to the provisions of law.
To ensure order and traffic safety during the remaining two days of the Tet holiday and the 2019 Spring Festival, the Deputy Prime Minister requested ministries, branches and provinces and cities to strengthen the implementation of the Prime Minister's telegram on ensuring order and traffic safety during the Tet holiday, focusing on the following solutions:
Mobilize the maximum number of traffic police, traffic inspectors and other police forces to step up patrolling, controlling, detecting and strictly handling violations of traffic order and safety; continue to prioritize handling of violations of regulations on alcohol concentration, stimulants and helmet wearing regulations for motorcyclists, motorbikes and electric bicycles.
Direct central and local medical facilities to increase human resources, equipment, medical drugs and blood to treat victims of accidents and injuries, especially prioritizing the treatment of traffic accident victims; check alcohol and drug levels for all traffic accident victims admitted to the emergency unit.
Increase vehicles and human resources to ensure sufficient capacity and quality of transportation services to serve people's travel needs, especially on transportation routes connecting Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City with localities nationwide.
Arrange forces to ensure smooth and safe traffic for people returning to the city after the Lunar New Year holiday; especially traffic routes towards Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; promptly handle and resolve incidents, traffic accidents, etc., to avoid prolonged traffic congestion. Strictly implement regulations on stopping toll collection and releasing vehicles from stations when prolonged traffic congestion occurs at toll stations...
