US Vice President not welcomed by Palestine to the Middle East
Officials from both the Fatah party and the Palestinian militant Islamist movement Hamas have objected to Vice President Mike Pence's planned visit to the Middle East.
On January 20, Middle East media reported that officials from both the Fatah party and the Palestinian armed Islamic movement Hamas on the same day opposed the planned visit of US Vice President Mike Pence to the Middle East.
Speaking in the West Bank, Fatah spokesman Osama Qawasmi said: “Mr. Pence’s visit to the region is completely unwelcome since he blindly supports Israel.”
The spokesman called on Arab countries not to host Mr. Pence in response to the US announcement on Jerusalem and Washington's decision to cut financial aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
Meanwhile, Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said: “There is no justification for welcoming the American official, since he announced his confirmation of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.”
According to plan, the US Vice President will have a four-day trip to the Middle East to three countries including Egypt, Jordan and Israel but will not meet with Palestinian officials./.
