Nigerian Vice President Escapes Death as Plane Crashes to Ground

Mr. Yemi Osinbajo met with an accident while campaigning ahead of the upcoming general elections.

CNNVice President Yemi Osinbajo was unhurt after his helicopter crashed on February 2 in the town of Kabba, Kogi State, central Nigeria, a spokesman confirmed. Images from the scene showed the helicopter flipped onto its side and badly damaged.

Mr Osinbajo was campaigning for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the upcoming general elections and delivered his scheduled speech shortly after the accident.

"We are extremely thankful to God for sparing our lives in the incident that just happened. We are all safe and no one was injured," Osinbajo said. "God kept us safe and alive, saved us from death so that we can do more for our people and our country."

Nigeria's general election is scheduled to be held on February 16.
