Dang Thi Hien, a student at Vinh Medical School, said that at 4:00 a.m. she heard her friends making noise and banging on the door. “When I woke up, I saw water everywhere and books floating around. The room looked like a swimming pool. Not only my dormitory, but many dormitories around were in the same condition,” Hien said.
According to Hien, the water was entering the room very quickly, although they tried every way to prevent the water from flooding in, it was too late. So the whole dormitory could only find a high place to put valuables and wait for the water to recede to clean up the room. Hien said, "I studied in Vinh for 3 years but this is the first time the dormitory has flooded into the room. The previous storms did not flood as badly as this."

Like Hien, the entire dormitory that Nguyen Thi Van, a senior student at Vinh University, had a sleepless night. She usually slept soundly, but when she heard a strange noise, she woke up. When she woke up, she was shocked to see water flooding into her room. The microphone that Van had placed on the floor of the room was flooded, so it made a strange noise that woke her up. After that, Van called everyone in the dormitory to get up and salvage their belongings and bail out the water.

“We bailed water from 4am to 6am before the water receded. Luckily we had school off this morning, otherwise we wouldn’t have had the energy to study,” Van said. After cleaning up, everyone called their classmates to ask about the “flood” situation or called home.
When the “flood” passed, many students suffered heavy losses, from electronic devices such as computers, gas stoves, rice cookers to books, blankets, etc. In many dormitories, students together cleaned up their belongings from inside the rooms to the streets.

“The floodwaters brought in garbage, making the cleanup quite difficult. However, the whole dormitory cleaned up together, so it was as fun as going to a festival,” a student said with a laugh. According to many students, this was the most memorable flood they had ever experienced.
