Summer courses are being chosen by many parents to relieve the pressure of studying after a hard year of studying. However, to have meaningful courses, parents need to consider carefully, avoiding the "traps" of scammers.

Experiential courses attract parents and students

"Awakening Love" is the first summer course to "kick off" the summer for students organized by the Center for Continuing Education - Career Guidance of Nghe An province.

The course only lasted for one session, but the students participated in many meaningful and useful activities and practiced real-life situations and stories.

In the program, children also listen to stories with profound educational value to better understand the value of love, the great sacrifices, boundless love, and care that their parents have for them.

This summer, for the first time, the Provincial Center for Continuing Education and Career Guidance opened courses on life values education. According to the unit's plan, each course will last for 2 days with many topics close to school age, such as anger transformation course, self-confidence nurturing course, gratitude nurturing course...

Students today are under a lot of pressure from schoolwork, studying, and their relationships with family, society, and the online community are more complicated. Therefore, equipping students with knowledge and skills to deal with relationships is extremely necessary.

We ourselves, when implementing these courses with the support of psychological experts, hope to help children have more determination and confidence to overcome challenges in life and study.

Although it is only summer, more than 800 parents have registered for summer courses at the province's Continuing Education Center. In addition to traditional courses such as teaching giftedness and preparing primary school students, many courses are opened with the aim of "awakening" children's potential. Notably, some courses also have the participation of parents.

Ms. Hoang Thi Hoai An - Deputy Director of the Center shared: Previously, summer was an opportunity for parents to enhance extra study and cultural education for students. However, currently, parents' awareness has changed a lot.

Along with studying culture, parents want to guide their children to activities to improve their health, develop their talents and help them have experiences and relax gently. This will help children have a summer that is both useful and interesting, reducing the pressure of studying.

After only 3 days of registration, the Military Semester Program organized by the Provincial Youth Union - Department of Education and Training of Nghe An and Military School of Military Region 4 has received 350 registrations, much faster than previous years.

This year's program, scheduled to take place from early June, will last for 9 days with many meaningful activities for students aged 11-17.

By participating in these activities, children are trained in a military environment, learning military skills such as swimming, team formation, behavioral skills when home alone, when encountering strangers, health training, life skills education...

We were quite surprised when the program was just announced and received positive response from parents and students. That shows that families today are very interested in educating their children about life skills and want to have a playground for them to experience, practice independence, self-awareness, respect for labor, and appreciate the meaning of time.

Beware of free course "traps"

Taking summer courses has now become an annual activity for many school-age students. Grasping the needs of many families, many scams of free courses have also flourished online.

Recently, the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Province Police informed that a number of parents were victims of fraud, in the form of invitations to participate in summer courses.

A 38-year-old parent in Vinh city said she searched for information online and accidentally found the fanpage “Military Summer” with more than 3,000 members.

Seeing the high level of interaction, she went in to learn more about her child and left the information she needed advice on. After that, a consultant responded and gave her the application code so she could register her child and learn more about the course, duration and benefits of participation.

I was instructed to register for Telegram to receive information about the course. The consultants also said that since I registered at the time of sponsorship, there would be no fee. If I registered after May, the cost of participating in the military semester organized by this unit would be 3.2 million VND.

To receive the above "free" course, the consultant required this parent to increase the product code interaction for the sponsor and to make a purchase.

At first, this parent was quite confident because there were 7-8 members in the group. After each purchase, the purchase money would be refunded, and an additional 10% commission would be added for each purchase.

The buying trap started from the 5th time when the customer was suggested to buy a ceiling air conditioner and required to perform 2 operations, totaling more than 80 million VND.

After completing the request, this parent sent back the invoice and was informed by the consultant that she had not done it correctly, missing a purchase invoice. To get the full payment back, she requested to add more interactions, which meant having to pay more money to buy the product.

At that time, because there was no money left in the account, this parent could not make the request for the orders. While she did not know where to turn, the Telegram group was deleted, and the accounts of the two consultants could not be contacted.

When she reported this story to the police, she learned that the bank accounts were all fake accounts, and the scammers might be abroad. The creation of the Telegram account and its members, including parents, could be a trap set by the scammers to gain customers' trust.

Regarding these scams, Nghe An Provincial Police recently issued a warning document, proactively preventing cybercrime by introducing and advising parents to register their children to participate in courses, experiential activities, and training during the summer.

On the side of the Department of Education and Training, to prevent criminals from using high technology to commit fraud and appropriation of property with the above method, the Department has also issued a document advising parents that if they register their children for summer study and training courses, they must carefully research the center and the facility organizing the class, and must have a clear address in the area to register; do not register online to avoid being scammed.

If you register at life skills education centers, you need to carefully research the center and facility to make sure it meets the operating conditions and is licensed by the Department of Education and Training.
