The wife of the Greek ambassador to Brazil, Françoise de Sousa Oliveira (left), is suspected of organizing the murder of her husband.

Police arrested the ambassador's widow and her lover, 29-year-old police officer Sergio Moreira, as well as his cousin, who "covered" for them and helped move the dead man's body. Moreira's cousin reportedly agreed to become an accomplice for a promised payment of 80,000 reais ($25,000).

According to the investigation, Francoise de Oliveira Souza and her accomplices had planned the murder in advance.

On Thursday, Brazilian media, citing officials at the Greek Embassy in Brasilia, reported that 59-year-old Ambassador Amiridis went missing three days ago while on vacation in Rio de Janeiro with his wife. She called the police.

According to Globo, Mr. Amiridis' wife told police that the diplomat briefly left the house where they lived and disappeared.

It was later revealed that the police found an unidentified body in the burned car of the missing Brazilian ambassador. According to Globo, the license plate and the characteristics of the burned car were similar to the Ambassador's rental car. The car was found in the Nova Iguaçu municipality, where the ambassador went missing. An examination will be conducted to establish the identity of the deceased.
