After 8 years living in the White House, on January 20, Mrs. Michelle will leave with her husband, Mr. Barack Obama, when Mr. Donald Trump is sworn in as the 45th President of the United States.
"To all the young people out there, know that this country belongs to you, for you, from every background and walk of life. Being first lady has been the greatest honor of my life. I hope I have made you proud," Michelle said in the East Room of the White House.
As first lady, she focused on promoting healthy lifestyles, educating girls, and advocating for support for military families.
AFP said Mrs. Obama is also a role model for minorities as the first African-American woman to have the most influence.
Mrs. Obama herself is a testament to the opposite of President-elect Donald Trump's attacks on illegal immigrants and Muslims during his campaign.
"If you or your parents are immigrants, know that you are part of a proud American tradition," Mrs. Obama affirmed.
"With a good education, anything is possible, including becoming president. The American dream is for everyone," Mrs. Obama shared.
"Know that religious diversity is also a great American tradition," said first lady Obama.
Although she did not mention President-elect Donald Trump in her speech, her comments were all related to Mr. Trump.
"You cannot give away your freedoms. You have to do your part to protect and preserve them. So don't be afraid, don't be shy, stay focused, stay determined... with hope and never fear," Mrs. Obama urged.
Previously, in a speech in October in New Hampshire, Mrs. Obama had condemned Mr. Trump's "scary" attitude towards women. "This is not politics as usual. This is disgraceful. It is unacceptable" - Mrs. Obama condemned.
However, despite her political experience, reputation for style, intelligence and tact, Mrs. Obama has repeatedly said she has no ambitions to run for president.
"Michelle will never run for the White House. She's a talented person. You can see her incredible resonance with the American people. But I joke that she's too sensitive to get into politics," Mr. Obama said in an interview a few weeks ago.
