(Baonghean.vn) - Que Phong is famous for its specialty duck. Because it is raised in a natural environment, people pay little attention to disease prevention and control, so it is often affected by epidemics and develops slowly. Faced with this situation, Cam Muon commune assigned the commune's women's association to build a model to preserve and develop the duck breed, and now there are 450 households raising it and earning billions of dong.

Ducks have become the main livestock of families in Cam Muon.

To make the model successful, the Women's Union chose the family of Mrs. Lo Thi Viet, one of the households with idle labor and suitable space to raise ducks. However, the number of duck breeds in the commune is not much. Mrs. Viet and her husband traveled to find and collect each egg for the chickens to incubate.

The first ducklings that hatched were carefully cared for by Mrs. Viet’s family and grew rapidly. To meet the demand, the Women’s Union of the commune asked the superiors for support with an egg incubator and 5 million VND to help the family produce goods.

Ms. Lo Thi Viet, Na Cho village, Cam Muon commune added: Also thanks to the support of the state and the desire to preserve the local duck breed, my family has successfully bred and raised this breed of duck. Now I raise 3 batches of 500 ducks each year, selling them to the market for 120 million VND/year.

The ducks are raised in streams and eat small fish and shrimp, so their meat is firm.

Adult Bau ducks weigh from 1.6 to 2 kg. Ducks start laying eggs at 162 to 168 days old. The hatching rate is 80%; Egg production/hen/34 weeks of laying is 122 to 124 eggs. They are good at finding food in streams and fields. Bau ducks are delicious and sweet because they are raised in a free-range manner. Their main food is fish and shrimp in streams. In addition, the price of 1 kg of live weight is 120 thousand VND, while grass ducks are only 50-70 thousand VND/1 kg with the same investment cost.

Seeing that Mrs. Viet was able to raise and save a lot of assets in the house, many women in the commune such as Vi Thi Dan, Na Cho village, and Ms. Lu Thi Huyen, Mong 3 village also raised them.

This disease prevention method for ducks is also easy. If the weather changes and the duck has white stools, just take a few guava leaves and a handful of Bóp Bóp leaves, boil them and give them to drink instead of water and they will be cured.

According to statistics from the Women's Union, in Cam Muon commune, there are more than 450 households raising small-scale ducks, 80 households raising ducks for commercial sale, the economic value from ducks brings to the people of Cam Muon commune up to billions. This source of income has contributed greatly to hunger eradication and poverty reduction in the locality.

Not only Cam Muon commune has successfully raised ducks, communes such as Quang Phong, Tien Phong, Tri Le, Chau Kim have also implemented the model of raising ducks to supply restaurants in Que Phong such as: Luong Thuc, Ngo Hieu, Thu Dong...

Mr. Lo Van Tung, Vice Chairman of Cam Muon Commune added: The model of ducks of Cam Muon Commune Women's Union has really brought high economic efficiency. Now many Association organizations such as: Veterans, Farmers, Youth also participate in learning and raising. Ducks have contributed to reducing poverty for people in the commune by 2-3% per year.

The Bau duck is a type of waterfowl with a large body, short legs, short neck, fragrant, sweet, fatty meat that is not greasy... and is popular with consumers.
