On August 30, the Department of Investigation Police on Economic Crimes and Corruption (PC46), Ho Chi Minh City Police announced that it had just dismantled a fake pharmaceutical ring led by Mai Cong Phu (63 years old, residing in Binh Hung commune, Binh Chanh district).

Phu and his accomplices' trick was to use drugs such as Pharmaton, Neo-codion, Fugacar, Laroscorbine... with their labels stripped off and then branded as foreign drugs to sell.

Previously, at noon on August 25, Mai Thanh Hoang (Phu's son) was caught red-handed by PC 46 while transporting a box of drugs (13 bags of drugs without labels) at the intersection of Vo Van Kiet-Ho Ngoc Lam (Binh Tan District).

Hoang said that these modern medicines were painkillers bought at the modern medicine market in District 10 and then brought to his sister-in-law's house in An Lac Ward, Binh Tan District to remove the blister packs. After that, Hoang would deliver them to Khuu Tuan Cuong in Ward 5 (District 6) to be crushed into foreign medicines.

Based on Hoang's testimony, Team 9 of PC46 raided Cuong's house. At the same time, the police also urgently searched the house of Mr. Phu's relatives in Binh Chanh district.

Here, the police seized four boxes of finished counterfeit drugs and two boxes of various types of counterfeit drug boxes.

Initially, Mr. Phu confessed to buying new medicines produced in Vietnam, then giving them to Cuong and other subjects to fake packaging, labels, instructions for use, etc. All of the fake medicines would be sold outside the Central and Western regions.
