Mira Ricardel "will continue to support the President as she transitions from the White House to her new role in the administration," White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a statement on November 14. Sanders did not elaborate on Ricardel's new job, according toReuters.
A day earlier, US First Lady Melania Trump called for Ricardel to be fired, saying she "no longer deserves the honor of serving in this White House." Ricardel last month clashed with Melania and her staff over her October trip to Africa and the use of government resources for the trip.
Ricardel is a former Commerce Department official who was picked by Trump's National Security Adviser John Bolton to be his deputy in March. Ricardel served in the Defense Department under President George W. Bush and worked for Republican Senator Bob Dole when he was Senate Majority Leader.
