Nghe An gold miners in 'hell on earth'
(Baonghean.vn) - To recruit workers, gold mine owners often build teams of agents to spread out across the region, especially in the districts of Ky Son and Tuong Duong of Nghe An. This team receives a salary per person, and for each worker brought to the gold mine, they receive 2 million VND; therefore, in the gold mine, these people are called "headhunters".
1,000 km journey
In mid-May, Cut Van Tinh (19 years old, Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district) and a group of 3 friends arrived at Kham Duc bus station (Phuoc Son district, Quang Nam) after a journey of 1,000 km. Like his friends in the same commune, this was the first time Tinh was excited to leave his village and travel so far. Following the group of young people was a man over 40 years old living in the same district, named T.
Along the way, the man named T. always showed thoughtful care for the group of young people. As soon as they got off the bus, Tinh's group was hired by this man as a motorbike taxi and taken to a gold mine about 30 km from the center of Kham Duc town. The days of digging for gold in the dark tunnels began. Like the other young people, Tinh did not know that he had become a commodity traded by a man from the same hometown as the gold mine owners, since he and the group agreed to work at the gold mine.
