Patient Luong Thanh Chuyen (72 years old) from Que Phong district, is one of the patients who suffered from a severe stroke and has been treated in many places but has not recovered. Currently, patient Chuyen is being treated and rehabilitated at the Physical Therapy Department.
“My husband had a stroke in early 2018. The disease came very quickly, in just a split second, he was sleeping, suddenly woke up and could not lift his arm. His family immediately took him to the district hospital, then the provincial hospital in a very critical condition, his brain was almost non-functional, the right side of his body was completely paralyzed, the prognosis was only 20% survival.”
After 2 days of intensive care, Mr. Chuyen regained consciousness. After more than 1 month in the hospital, his family was on duty 24/7 to take care of him because even though he was awake, Mr. Chuyen still lay motionless in one place.
It is impossible to tell all the hardships that Mrs. Mai - his wife and children went through during the more than half year that Mr. Chuyen was hospitalized. Mrs. Mai shared: "Before, he was always gentle with his wife and children, but since he got sick, he has become moody, often grumpy and yelling whenever someone did not serve him as he wanted, making the family atmosphere always heavy." In early July 2018, after researching and being introduced by relatives, the family transferred him to Nghe An Rehabilitation Hospital for treatment.

As for Mr. Le Anh Sang in Thanh Khe commune (Thanh Chuong), 70 years old this year, he suffered from a stroke 20 years ago. Due to not being treated in time, he was left with quite serious consequences: unable to walk, almost only using a wheelchair to move, trembling hands and feet, unable to grasp things, crooked mouth. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Lan - Mr. Sang's wife said, she had to serve him in everything for the past 20 years. Wherever he went, she followed. For more than a year now, the family has decided to transfer his insurance to Nghe An Rehabilitation Hospital for treatment and recovery after the stroke.
“Most stroke patients are hospitalized with paralysis of the arms, legs or half of the body, unable to walk, and completely dependent on family members for daily activities. Patients often have psychological changes such as negative thinking, depression, fatigue, and irritability... ”.

However, after a stroke, rehabilitation will depend on the patient's level of disability and ability to function. If the patient is paralyzed on one side of the body and is bedridden, and is dependent on others for all activities, then exercise will be passive exercises assisted by a caregiver or physical therapist.

Usually, patients recover quite well in the first 3 months, recover more slowly in the next 3 months, and recover very slowly after 6 months. Therefore, rehabilitation after a stroke requires patients to be very persistent in practicing and complying with the treatment support regimen of the medical facility. Family members should encourage and take good care of the patient during the treatment support process.
Exercise and rehabilitation as soon as possible is the only way to help patients reduce the sequelae and complications after strokes. Over the past time, Nghe An Rehabilitation Hospital with a team of highly qualified doctors, nurses and technicians with solid expertise in the field of physical therapy and rehabilitation has helped patients recover their motor functions quickly, reintegrate them into the community and society and give them a better life. After a stroke, patients should practice rehabilitation as soon as possible. Rehabilitation exercises will be carried out in stages. The general goal is to help patients recover motor functions to be able to move, restore language functions such as listening, speaking, understanding, and soon reintegrate into life. The sequelae left behind by a stroke make it difficult for patients to move and walk. To reduce the sequelae and prevent recurrence, when returning home after the emergency phase, patients must still be cared for and treated according to a separate regimen.
