Specifically, speaking at the Beijing Xiangshan Forum, China's largest annual military diplomacy event, on October 30, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu stated that the Western alliance is seeking to expand the current conflict provoked by Europe to Asia.

“Having created a serious crisis in Europe, the West is looking at the possibility of spreading it to the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, in a number of directions,” Shoigu said.

The minister stressed that the direct involvement of nuclear-armed states in this confrontation would amplify “strategic risks.”

Shoigu noted that the West has recently been actively pursuing the possibility of deploying its troops to the region, under the pretext of creating “a Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific security alliance,” which would justify the presence of NATO military bases in Asia.

According to the Russian minister, such an approach seriously undermines the principle of unified security, promoted by Russia and China, which Chinese President Xi Jinping calls “a community with a shared future”.

Mr. Shoigu affirmed that Russia-China relations are becoming more and more attractive to other countries, adding that “the group of our friends and like-minded people who do not want to be drawn into the confrontational agenda imposed by the Western collective is growing.”
