How the West Failed in Syria
The West missed its chance to influence the situation in Syria, and this is the result of the failure of the United States and Europe in their policy in the Middle East. This was stated by the Chairman of the German Foreign Policy Committee Norbert Röttgen in an interview with Kieler Nachrichten.

According to him, in Syria, especially in Idlib, a large-scale campaign will soon begin, and the Syrian government, Russia and Iran will play an important role in this event. This is a consequence of Western policy in the region in recent years.
According to Röttgen, the responsibility for this lies with former US President Barack Obama, who in 2013 "did not respond militarily to Assad's chemical attack", although he promised to carry out combat operations.
The politician also called Europe a "political beggar" that has lost all its influence, leading to the strengthening of Russia and Iran.
"Europe has become a diplomatic beggar. Now we have to ask Russia, Iran and Assad not to do what they have been doing all this time. And we know for sure that they are not doing what we ask," Röttgen said.
He also accused the EU of completely ignoring its mistakes and showing no intention of analyzing them and correcting them.
"For seven years in a row, the European Union has not learned from the mistakes it made in Syria. Germany, France and Italy have not drawn the conclusion from their own European failures to be completely humiliated in Syria - there is no other way to say it," Röttgen commented.
In his view, the West is going through a serious crisis, which has led to a massive wave of refugees fleeing to Europe.
