Piaggio unexpectedly recalls over 3,000 Medley scooters in Vietnam.

Piaggio Vietnam is implementing a recall program for 3,335 Medley 125/150 ABS scooters manufactured between February and August 2016 to upgrade the main frame.

Following approval from the Vietnam Registering Authority, Piaggio officially issued a recall notice for 3,335 Medley 125/150 ABS scooters manufactured between February and August 2016 and sold on the market.

The motorcycle joint venture also added that this recall program is part of Piaggio Group's overall policy.

The reason for this recall has been identified as the manufacturer discovering that the main frame tube of some batches of the Piaggio Medley ABS 125/150 may be damaged under conditions of excessive load or improper use.

The premium Medley scooter is being recalled for a main frame upgrade.

Piaggio Group has decided to recall the aforementioned Medley scooters for a free general inspection and frame upgrade by strengthening the main tube's rigidity. Additionally, the warranty for the recalled vehicles will be extended by one year or 10,000 km.

This recall campaign runs from November 10, 2017 to October 31, 2018. The inspection and upgrade process is expected to take approximately 2 minutes. Users can bring their vehicles to Piaggio dealerships nationwide for inspection and upgrade.

Launched in the Vietnamese market in March 2016, the Piaggio Medley is a premium scooter model that directly competes with the Honda SH. Like its competitor, the Piaggio scooter also offers 125cc and 150cc engine options. At launch, this premium scooter model stood out even more with its ABS anti-lock braking system and integrated USB charging port for mobile devices.

The Piaggio Medley is currently priced between 71.5 and 86 million VND, depending on the version.
