Piaggio recalls over 14,000 Vespa scooters in Vietnam.

Starting September 12, 2014, Piaggio Vietnam began recalling 14,291 Vespa scooters to inspect and rectify a defect in the fuel delivery system.

Specifically, 9,793 Vespa LX 3V ie scooters are subject to recall, along with 2,655 Vespa S 3V ie scooters, 1,226 Vespa LXV 3V ie scooters, and 617 Vespa LT 3V ie scooters. All recalled scooters are equipped with Piaggio's new 3V engine generation and were manufactured between May 13, 2013, and January 10, 2014.

The Italian fashion motorcycle manufacturer announced that during quality control, they discovered that the fuel line installed on the vehicles did not meet Piaggio Group's standards. Under certain harsh conditions, this could lead to fuel line cracking and leakage. Therefore, Piaggio Vietnam "decided to inspect all vehicles under suspicion to identify the defect and replace the faulty part."

According to the recall program approved by the Vietnam Register (Ministry of Transport), Piaggio Vietnam will conduct free inspections for all vehicles suspected of having defects. If a defect is found, Piaggio will rectify it by replacing the fuel line. All recall and rectification activities will be free of charge. The estimated time for inspection and rectification (if any) is between 10 and 60 minutes.

In addition, Piaggio is also recalling the 2013 imported Vespa 946 models sold in the Vietnamese market to check for a similar defect. The Vespa 946 is a popular scooter model from Piaggio globally, known for its unique design and price tag of hundreds of millions of Vietnamese dong.

Piaggio is a very popular motorcycle brand in Vietnam. Therefore, Vietnam is also one of Piaggio's largest markets worldwide. Currently, Piaggio is in the process of completing its plan to make Vietnam a major export hub for the group. Over the past three years, Piaggio Vietnam has continuously expanded its factory, built a research and development center, and according to plan, the headquarters of Piaggio in the Asia-Pacific region is also being considered for relocation from Singapore to Vietnam.
