As the President's spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained, the country's leader was happy with the victory of the Russian team over the "Red Fury" together with all the Russian people.
"Putin too, he also supported our players, also rejoiced in victory with the whole country. I will not embellish, but, believe me, he supported, watched like all Russians with all his heart," - said the Kremlin representative.
Peskov recalled that the Russian President called the national team coach Stanislav Cherchesov twice before and after the match.
The Russian national football team won the World Cup round of 16 against Spain and reached the quarterfinals of the tournament.
