"The North Korean nuclear issue is very serious. However, we must not lose our composure but act realistically and tactfully," AFP quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin as saying today during a meeting with his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-In on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Hamburg, Germany.
South Korean President, during a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on the same day, called for tough sanctions against North Korea, after Pyongyang announced a successful test of an intercontinental ballistic missile on July 4.
However, Mr. Moon affirmed his willingness to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-un with the aim of reducing tensions between the two sides.
The North Korean issue was also discussed in the first meeting between the Russian President and his US counterpart Donald Trump. US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the two leaders showed somewhat different views on how to deal with Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs.
