“This issue is not on the president's agenda,” Peskov told the media.
Asked about the possibility of extending his term, Putin replied: “I think I made it clear to everyone yesterday that I have never changed the Constitution, especially for my own purposes. And I have no such plans now.”
On May 11, the Chechen parliament unanimously voted to advance a legislative initiative to extend the powers of the head of state to three consecutive terms. According to the Russian Constitution, an individual cannot serve more than two consecutive terms as President of Russia.
Putin's spokesman also added that Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has not yet submitted proposals on the structure of the executive branch to President Putin. Dmitry Medvedev assumed the position of Russian Prime Minister on May 8, after being approved by the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament.
“First of all, the head of government will propose the structure of the cabinet to the president. This has not been done yet,” Peskov told reporters.
He also commented on media reports that in the near future the federal agency in charge of scientific organizations will be dissolved and its functions will be transferred to the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.
Peskov added that Putin has not yet made any decisions on the upcoming appointments of the Center for Strategic Research (CSR) Director and former Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin. “The president has not made any decisions on this issue,” he stressed.
