Putin: US worsens humanitarian disaster in Syria

“Russia strongly condemns the attack on Syria, where Russian servicemen are helping the legitimate authorities in the fight against terrorism,” the Kremlin press office quoted Putin as saying.

“By its actions, the United States is increasingly aggravating the humanitarian catastrophe in Syria and causing civilian suffering, and is actually colluding with the terrorists who have been causing misery to the Syrian people for the past seven years and provoking a new wave of migration from this country and the entire region,” Putin said.

According to Vladimir Putin, the US used a staged chemical attack against civilians to carry out the attack.

“Once again, just as a year ago when the US attacked the Syrian Shayrat air base, a staged attack using chemical weapons against civilians was used as a pretext, this time in Douma, a suburb of Damascus. Russian military specialists visited the site of the alleged incident and found no traces of chlorine gas or other chemical agents. None of the local residents confirmed that a chemical attack had taken place,” the Kremlin press office quoted Putin as saying.

Meanwhile, CNN also reported that Putin called the missile attack "an act of aggression against a sovereign state" and against the United Nations Charter.

According to this source, Russia is calling on the United Nations Security Council to immediately meet to discuss the "aggressive actions" of the US and its allies.
