This decision of the German Chancellor is said to be significantly influenced by the results of the Hessen state election held on October 28, with her CDU party winning only 27.6% of the votes, down nearly 11% compared to the 2013 election results. However, according to the German news agency DPA, Ms. Merkel will continue to hold the position of German Chancellor until the end of her term in 2021.

Ayako, 28, a cousin of the Emperor, married Kei Moriya, 32, an employee of the shipping company Nippon Yusen. Japanese national television showed the couple slowly entering the Meiji Shrine in front of guests.

The princess wore her hair parted in the middle in a Heian-era style, and wore a traditional dress with a red and blue lantern pattern, while the groom wore a tailcoat.

Women who marry into the Japanese royal family become members of the royal family, but for women who are members of the royal family who marry commoners like Ayako, they have to leave the royal family.

However, Ayako will receive nearly 107 million yen (about $950,000) from the government to maintain the princess's status when she no longer has royal status.
