Putin and Erdogan pledge to abide by agreement to create de-escalation zone in Syria

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan discussed the importance of strict and clear compliance with the Astana agreements on Syria in a phone call, the Kremlin said.

"The presidents stressed the importance of strict and clear compliance with the Astana agreements on the creation of a de-escalation zone in Syria and reaffirmed their commitment to political and diplomatic solutions based on UN Security Council Resolution 2254," the statement said.

The statement also stressed that the two presidents noted the importance of continuing the joint work of Russia, Türkiye and Iran in Syria. In addition, during the conversation, the heads of the two states discussed the prospects for new contacts in this format at different levels.

The Turkish president also expressed condolences over the February 3 death of Russian military pilot Roman Filipov in Idlib, Syria.
