The Kremlin press service said that the focus of the phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump was the prospects for coordinating Russian-US efforts in the fight against international terrorism, set against the backdrop of the situation in Syria.

“On May 2, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. The two sides discussed a range of issues of cooperation between the two countries in the international arena. The focus was on the prospects for coordinating the actions of Russia and the United States in the fight against international terrorism amid the crisis in Syria,” the Kremlin said.

“In particular, the presidents agreed to renew the dialogue at the foreign ministerial level between the two countries to find ways to consolidate, maintain and control the ceasefire. The goal is to create conditions for launching a genuine reconciliation process in Syria. Therefore, the Russian and US foreign ministers will inform the leaders about the progress made on this roadmap,” the press agency added.

Putin-Trump meeting

The two presidents discussed a wide range of bilateral cooperation issues, including the possibility of meeting face-to-face on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Hamburg.
