Military Region 4: Implementing the collection of martyrs' remains during the 2015-2016 dry season.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of June 5th, the Steering Committee 1237 of Military Region 4 held a conference to approve the plan for surveying and gathering information on martyrs' graves in Laos and within the country during the 2015-2016 dry season.

Major General Tran Tien Dung, Deputy Political Commissar of the Military Region and Head of the Military Region's 1237 Steering Committee, chaired the conference.

Overview of the conference.

According to the data provided, currently, in 10 provinces and cities of Laos (areas under the responsibility of Military Region 4), there are still nearly 1,000 graves of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts that have not been collected. These graves are mainly located in the provinces of Hua Phan, Xieng Khouang, Vientiane, Bolikhamsai, Khammouane, Savannakhet, and Salavan.

Within the country, there are still nearly 3,000 uncollected graves of fallen soldiers, mostly scattered in mountainous areas along the Vietnam-Laos border in the provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien Hue. The terrain is difficult to access, grave maps are no longer available, and very few people have information about these graves.

After hearing reports from leaders and commanders of the Military Commands of 6 provinces and the 337th Economic and National Defense Brigade on plans, proposed forces, equipment, and timeframes for surveying and gathering information on martyrs' graves in Laos and domestically during the 2015-2016 dry season, the 1237 Steering Committee of the Military Region requested that Party committees and commanders of units carrying out the task continue to strengthen propaganda work and launch a widespread campaign to provide information about martyrs' graves among all levels of the population, organizations, and government agencies.

The selection of personnel for survey and information gathering tasks must prioritize individuals with good health, a high sense of responsibility, and extensive experience in repatriation work. They must also possess strong communication skills and an understanding of the customs and traditions of the local people in Laos. Upon obtaining information about the graves of fallen soldiers, a survey file must be compiled, a map of the grave's location drawn, and confirmed by the local authorities and the unit commander. Based on the information gathered about the graves, a survey plan must be developed for each area, with proactive and close coordination with the Laotian side during the task. Focus should be placed on processing the information provided about the graves, concluding the survey at each stage.
