The US military recently declassified images of the preparation process for the two atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

On August 6 and 9, 1945, the US dropped two atomic bombs named Little Boy and Fat Man on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, respectively. Newly declassified images from the US military show that the two nuclear bombs were carefully inspected and transported to North Field Airport, Tinian Island, Northern Mariana Islands, south of Japan, before the US carried out the first field atomic bombing in human history, according to Business Insider. In the photo, three US soldiers are checking the shell of the Fat Man bomb. Before dropping real bombs on Japan, the Pentagon conducted many test bombings on Tinian Island. |

A technician seals a gap in the Fat Man casing. This is the final preparation to ensure the environment inside the bomb is stable enough to create the full impact when detonated. |

American soldiers and personnel signed and wrote messages on the nose of the Fat Man bomb. |

Fat Man was covered with a tarp and transported to North Field with a military escort. |
At the airport, Fat Man was placed in a specialized 2.4 x 3.6 m pit. |
The nuclear bomb and its transport equipment were lowered into the pit by hydraulic elevator. |
Three days ago, the Little Boy bomb was also moved into a pit at the airport. |
When Little Boy was ready, the Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber, nicknamed Enola Gay, was put into position. |
The tarpaulin was removed to prepare to load the bomb onto the plane. |
Little Boy was lifted and lowered into the hull of the Enola Gay using a hydraulic ladder. |
