Netball 'genius' of Nghe An

Dung Ren is jokingly called by the netball world as the genius of Nghe An. Dung Ren's strength is maximized when competing in the 3-a-side event. Dung plays the main role. He is the one who has the power to decide the victory or defeat in a match.
This year, he is 36 years old, but Dung Ren still has the same passion for netball. In the grassroots and amateur tournaments in Vinh city and districts and towns in the province, Dung Ren often participates and wins prizes. Dung has also been voted the best player of the tournament many times.

Recently, in mid-October 2022, Vinh City Netball Team of Dung Ren, Dung Bay, Tuan Sara also won the championship in the Netball Tournament organized by Vinh City Youth Union. The tournament gathered more than 30 participating teams.
In this tournament, Vinh City Netball team was ranked in the seeded group, so they only had to play from the quarter-finals.
Facing very strong opponents such as Hung Hoa team (Vinh city), Hung Nguyen, Dung Ren and his teammates have excellently overcome their opponents to convincingly win the championship. Dung confided that this is the tournament where he has overcome his age, affirming his "brand" in the current netball world. Besides, he is also very happy to have contributed to inspiring young athletes and fans of this sport.
I am happy to see that the sports movement in general and the net soccer movement in particular are increasingly attracting young people to participate."

Motivation from the brother
Dau Ba Dung was born in Vinh city. He used to be a professional volleyball player of Military Region 4. After participating in many top volleyball tournaments in Vietnam, Dau Ba Dung decided to retire in 2010. Although no longer competing at the top level, the 36-year-old athlete still considers sports an indispensable daily meal. He decided to try his hand at netball.

Dung recalls: “Back then, after work, I often went to the city stadium to watch people play football. I found netball so attractive that I fell in love with it. Especially when I watched Hoang Vuong perform on the field, I was captivated without realizing it. And it was Hoang Vuong who ignited the passion and brought me to this sport.”
Having a natural athletic ability, Dung quickly approached netball. After more than 10 years, Dung Ren is now one of the leading strikers in Nghe An. Although this sport is not included in the official national competition system, it is welcomed by many Nghe people. According to veterans, Dung Ren is one of the most experienced athletes in this sport. During his playing career, Dau Ba Dung has come up with many new tactics, created good attacks, and is used as a model for young people to learn from.

Dung shared: “Anyone who has ever played netball will see the advantages it brings. I hope this sport will not only spread in Nghe An, but will be welcomed by people across the country. From there, it will be built into a sport, part of the Vietnamese sports system.”
Netball is one of the new sports but attracts a large number of people to participate. This sport attracts the audience by the skillful and spontaneous playing ability of the athletes with movements of the feet, chest and head.
Netball has rules very similar to volleyball. The main difference is that volleyball uses the hands, but netball only uses the feet, head and chest.
According to some veterans, this sport was formed in the 90s in Vinh city. Currently, the sport has developed widely throughout the province.
