Coffee shop offers discounts to polite customers

When customers come to have coffee, depending on whether they order politely or rudely, the price will be calculated differently.

A coffee shop in Virginia, USA has a unique way of calculating the price of drinks. Depending on how customers order when they arrive, the shop will calculate different prices for drinks. If you order politely, the price will be "softer" than if you order rudely and irritably.

For example, if you order “a small coffee,” the drink will cost $5. But if you say, “A small coffee, please,” it will cost $3. It will only cost you $1.75 to say, “Hello, a small coffee, please.”

This isn’t the first cafe to try to teach its customers about politeness. The Petite Syrah cafe in Nice, France, has a similar approach to pricing, reducing the price of a coffee from $7 to $4.25 if customers say “please” when ordering.

The manager of Petite Syrah said that customers are often rude at lunchtime because they are stressed. His method has had quick results after just a few days of implementation.

Virginia cafes hope they will succeed in changing customer behavior, just as Petite Syrah has.
