According to Yonhap, representatives of the Inter-Korean Liaison Office, South Korean Vice Minister of Unification Chon Hae-seong and Vice Chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea Jon Jong-su, had a meeting at the Liaison Office headquarters in the Kaesong joint industrial park from 11:45 a.m. the same day (9:45 a.m. Hanoi time).
The South Korean Unification Ministry said that the two officials Chon Hae-seong and Jon Jong-su had in-depth discussions on many issues related to the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula, such as the remaining problems between the two Koreas as well as the North Korea-US negotiations.
The two officials also exchanged opinions on directions for promoting inter-Korean relations, assessed the recent progress of US-North Korea dialogue, and determined the time for the second US-North Korea Summit.
It is likely that at this meeting, the two sides also discussed a plan to jointly organize a ceremony to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the “Democracy Movement,” which was agreed upon by the leaders of the two Koreas during the summit in Pyongyang in September 2018.
A Unification Ministry official told the press on January 24 that "we are discussing (with North Korea) to jointly celebrate the 100th anniversary of the March 1st Democracy Movement in a meaningful way."
