Chinese diplomat responds to Trump's threat
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said that if the US only wanted to escalate the trade conflict, China would have a "strong response and will fight to the end".
This is how Gen Shuang responded to US President Donald Trump's warnings that he would impose new tariffs on Chinese goods if Chinese President Xi Jinping fails to attend the G-20 leaders' meeting.
And Mr. Gen Shuang stressed that he did not know yet whether the Chinese leader planned to meet Trump at the G20 in Japan at the end of June.
The last round of US-China trade talks ended in mid-May without any results amid further US tariffs on Chinese goods. The US increased tariffs from 10% to 25% on Chinese imports worth nearly $200 billion.
Mr. Trump also ordered the beginning of the process of raising tariffs on all remaining imports from China, estimated to be worth about $300 billion.
In response, China's Ministry of Finance reported that since June 1, Beijing has imposed increased tariffs on imports from the United States worth $60 billion.
